English Lessons...
Before BYJ started filming Hotelier, he entered Sung Kyun Kwan University later than most students while taking time off from show business. During that time, my boyfriend unexpectedly took classes with BYJ.
I think that year, BYJ was a freshman and his major was film, while my boyfriend was a law major; but since he did not take a required English class during his freshman year, he attended an orientation and when he went to find an empty seat, there was BYJ.
So there at the orientation were freshman along with students who had enrolled late such as BYJ, and students from other faculties who had enrolled years before like my boyfriend, who was the only one.
Since my boyfriend had no interest whatsoever in BYJ…there was no reason either to show concern for him but... One day, BYJ came up to my boyfriend who was sitting in the lecture hall, and BYJ was holding the textbook, Basic English Grammar Year 2000 and he said, “You’re a law student, aren’t you?” BYJ said that he was studying alone, but there was one area that he could not understand and came over to ask for help.
My boyfriend said that it was a simple grammar sentence, but that there was evidence that BYJ had studied really hard.
After my boyfriend occasionally taught him English, BYJ would ask my boyfriend for help a number of times.
(My boyfriend said) After that, watching BYJ, I saw that he was the first among the students to arrive for class, and when classmates would arrive late, he would caution them saying, “Hurry, hurry up” or “Don’t talk during class” as he was listening to lectures intently.
On another day, as my boyfriend was standing in line at the student cafeteria, someone came and tapped him on the back. When he turned around to see who it was, it was BYJ.
BYJ smiled cheerfully and said, “I came to eat, why don’t you eat with me?” “It’s my treat.” Of course, it was a student meal.
When I heard this story from my boyfriend, a feeling of such closeness welled up within me. After hearing that story, my disinterest suddenly developed into positive feelings.
At the time, I even thought of going to BYJ’s lecture hall to listen to the English lecture, but I thought it would be a bother coming from another university, so I didn’t go.
I have regretted it up to now.
